School Budget/Building Program Funding

Fellow Commissioners,
Fellow Commissioners,
Here's some preliminary, early info. on the school budgets.

Based on information from Chuck Jenkins, growth in property tax revenue for the next budget year is very small -- about $160k or 0.6%. This is essentially nothing.

The schools have asked for an additional $1.253M in property tax revenue for their operating budget (Fund 141). This is equal to 11.1¢.

We are currently putting about 21¢ into the Rural Debt Fund (Fund156). About 7¢ is needed to fund existing school debt. This leaves about 14¢ available for new debt, which could be used to fund the a good part of the building program without a tax increase. However, if we allocate an additional 11.1¢ to the school operating budget, this just about wipes out the school building program.
